Abstract
Poor palatability in flexible oral solids (FOS) presents challenges in acceptability and compliance, particularly in pediatrics. Therefore, a non-functional coating to improve the palatability of FOS is desired. To overcome challenges experienced with Opadry SGR, a new non-functional coating system(s) for taste masking is being identified as the go-forward option for FOS. Identification of appropriate coatings includes evaluation of acceptable use in pediatrics, manufacturability, and stability. Reformulations and novel pH independent coatings are being investigated in collaboration with Colorcon. A reformulation on placebo microspheres provided by Colorcon has passed visual inspection on stability and will be coated on active MSC Microspheres to determine chemical and physical stability. In addition, various non-functional coatings from other vendors are being explored internally.
